Well your folks drove round my place and I was probably gettin’ high Held a coffee and a Costco magazine down on my thigh Your mom said “son it’s getting warm, you’re gonna waste another day” I said “If that’s the case my dear why don’t you kill me now” No you never seemed to care when you were half drunk before five These days thought you speak so corporate yeah you barely seem alive I think if I could make you breakfast I could stare into your eyes But you don’t spend much time at home these days now do you No I won’t hold you down If you wanna leave, then leave Lawn chair and a quiet town Sounds like a pretty good life to me Well the days they turned to weeks and then to months and then to years And maybe it’s the lack of sleep, you know I’ve had a couple beers But when I think of you that evening, yeah you stared into my eyes That was the last time that I saw you, ain’t it sad I drove down to California, tried to drown my sins away It was the fourth night of July, I’m up in San Francisco Bay And as I leaned into that moment, yeah I saw your stupid face The fireworks behind the fog I couldn’t see em No I won’t hold you down If you wanna leave, then leave Lawn chair and a quiet town Sounds like a pretty good life to me

Please tell me now, yeah I’m holding my breath Yeah I’m holding a flame for you, I can confess When I call your name there was never a sound, so I spun you around Yeah your curls touched your dress Singing I couldn’t sleep, and Hell, I’m in deep If I saw you again, no I’m not sure what I’d do Maybe I, I calm you down, and you take a step right next to me I’m comin’ around, and I see your point, I want to spend some time with this Maybe I, I calm you down, and you take a step right next to me I’m comin’ around, and I see your point, I want to spend some time with this Well I know your fears, yeah you whisper to me Lay a kiss on your forehead, you lean into me When Spring turns to fall, heard you got outta town I forgot what it felt like my head in your hand Singing I couldn’t sleep, and Hell, I’m in deep If I saw you again, no I’m not sure what I’d do Maybe I, I calm you down, and you take a step right next to me I’m comin’ around, and I see your point, I want to spend some time with this Maybe I, I calm you down, and you take a step right next to me I’m comin’ around, and I see your point, I want to spend some time with this Because I couldn’t tell you what you wanted, and I couldn’t take your disappointment Maybe I, I calm you down, and you take a step right next to me I’m comin’ around, and I see your point, I want to spend some time with this Maybe I, I calm you down, and you take a step right next to me I’m comin’ around, and I see your point, I want to spend some time with this

I’ve been hoping you could count it for me baby, all the ways I’ve ever let you down I could sing it but my voice is kind of lazy, I keep it to myself, you never heard the sound Now and then I like to take you out and hold you up, your hands can fidget while I catch your eyes and catch a ride Close the door you know I need your whole attention, I’m waiting for your touch and your time I’ll try to make it home tonight, so I can put the sprinkler on the lawn I’ll try to make it right, because I still need your body in my arms I’ll try to make it home tonight, I’m sleeping on the couch the TV’s on I’ll try to make it right, because I still need your body in my arms Take a second could you tell me what you like, not always great at reading social cues or reading minds Just wanna see you smile and dance another night, please don’t leave me hanging behind I’ll try to make it home tonight, so I can put the sprinkler on the lawn I’ll try to make it right, because I still need your body in my arms I’ll try to make it home tonight, I’m sleeping on the couch the TV’s on I’ll try to make it right, because I still need your body in my arms If you leave I swear I’ll be alright I know that you’ve been dreaming, I know that it’s been tearing you up Oh God, I tried so hard to ease your mind I can feel you drifting away, I feel you breaking my heart I’ll try to make it home tonight, so I can put the sprinkler on the lawn I’ll try to make it right, because I still need your body in my arms I’ll try to make it home tonight, I’m sleeping on the couch the TV’s on I’ll try to make it right, because I still need your body in my arms

Door Step 04:04
Loss is a hole, in the valley, that my car, drives right through in the rain A year to the day, I could’ve got married I’m on the 210, my tears are breaking up again, and I can’t figure out the words to say I was sitting on your doorstep, maybe you could find me, I’m hoping that you find me And I’ve never been so jaded, yeah I’ve never felt malaise at the thought of life I was sitting on your doorstep, maybe you could find me, I’m hoping that you find me Well I guess I’ll wait this out Fear is a hole in your heart, and my words, they couldn’t stick right from the start Cause I’m just trying to keep up and keep myself from slipping, yeah things get kind of heavy sometimes I’m living inside of my head, my tears are breaking up again, and I can’t figure out the words to say I was sitting on your doorstep, maybe you could find me, I’m hoping that you find me And I’ve never been so jaded, yeah I’ve never felt malaise at the thought of life I was sitting on your doorstep, maybe you could find me, I’m hoping that you find me Well I guess I’ll wait this out I was sitting on your doorstep, maybe you could find me, I’m hoping that you find me And I’ve never been so jaded, yeah I’ve never felt malaise at the thought of life I was sitting on your doorstep, maybe you could find me, I’m hoping that you find me Well I guess I’ll wait this out

Sweet Melody 01:58
I took a drive for taquitos, eat them alone in a parking space She said she’d call when she gets home, and we can hang at her place When you’re calling on me, it’s like a sweet sweet melody Just fall into me, it’s like a sweet sweet melody So play it cool when you meet up, I read you gotta say the right stuff I tell a joke on her bedroom floor, yeah I can never get enough When you’re calling on me, it’s like a sweet sweet melody Just fall into me, it’s like a sweet sweet melody Well I can feel forever when you crack me up I can hear you breathing when I lift you up I know you’ll never say it, but I feel your love When you’re calling on me, it’s like a sweet sweet melody Just fall into me, it’s like a sweet sweet melody

about

Thank You so much to everyone who helped in the creation of this EP. It is such a treat to get to make art with so many talented people. Special shout out to the Dimas family for welcoming me into their home during a pandemic to record these songs. I hope everyone enjoys the music as much as I enjoyed making it!

The “Gettin’ Better EP” explores love, loss and the complicated emotions in between over the course of 5 tracks. Produced by Chris Dimas (Surf Dads, Marissa Burwell), it marks his first solo release in over a decade. It will be released by Motor Entertainment in Germany, and Independently elsewhere.

Thank you to Creative Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Arts Board for their generous support in the marketing of this EP.

about

Nick Faye regina, Saskatchewan

Nick Faye crafts timeless songs that honour this past, embracing the hopes, dreams and frustrations of life lived in the Canadian Prairies. Fusing this with a clear love of mid-90s Pop Rock (think Rick Dees and The Weekly Top 40 in 1999), he creates songs that stick in the mind like a prairie snowdrift - taking their sweet time to melt away, slowly revealing the hope of new beginnings to come. ... more
